Arts & Culture

History and the arts also take center stage in Nashville. Fort Nashborough, the Tennessee State Museum, Travellers Rest, Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage, Belmont Mansion, Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery, Fort Negley and the Civil Rights Room at downtown’s Nashville Public Library provide insight into eras across the city’s 245-year history.
Dubbed the Athens of the South for its commitment to arts and education, Nashville houses the world’s only full-sized replica of the ancient Greek Parthenon in Centennial Park, complete with a 42-foot statue of Athena. Art and history also intertwine at the Van Vechten Art Gallery at Fisk University and the Frist Art Museum, housed in a historic art deco building downtown. Further West, Cheekwood Estate & Gardens features an extensive art collection within a1930s mansion, surrounded by 55-acres of gardens.
